"Passion For Italy":
9.00 am
Today we are going to whisk you and your guests away to a most enchanting city – a city which is also famous for being one of the Unesco world heritage sites.
Moreover, it is in this city that the Prussian royal family held court for many years.
With our competent Potsdam guide and a comfortable, luxury-class coach we will go along "Old Fritz’s" former bridle path - the Kurfürstendamm, through the green heart of Berlin – the Grunewald, and past the big Wannsee lake so that we soon come to the first signs of the Prussian "passion for Italy".
Many impressive, classical-style villas appear along the route in Potsdam.
10.00 am
We start our "Passion for Italy" at the Friedenskirche church which is situated in Sanssouci’s extensive and beautiful park.
The model for this church was a basilica in Rome dating from early Christian times.
From there we walk to Charlottenhof Castle, built in the style of an elegant Roman villa.
The Roman baths are not far from here, and we get there via a small footpath.
At the dairy-farm the coach picks us up again and takes us to the largest existing orangery in Europe.
Built by Persius, this orangery is an expression of all the memories gathered by Friedrich Wilhelm IV during his travels in Italy.
The Sicilian garden is just behind the orangery. This stunning garden dating from the 19th century was created by Lenné in typical Italian Renaissance garden style.
Our route along the trail of "Passion for Italy" takes us on to Glienicke Castle by coach.
When Prince Carl of Prussia came back to Berlin from his first trip to Italy in 1923, the 21-year-old prince decided to realise his dream of an Italian villa in a Mediterranean-style landscape in the middle of the "märkische Streusandbüchse".
